Musicianship
Music has always been my outlet to express myself in times of joy and sadness. Music has also always been there for me when I could not find the words for something. I have always found interest in exploring new performance atmospheres, as well as experimenting with music technology and with music arranging. I began learning the flute when I was 9 years old and piccolo when I was 12 years old. Since I began music, I have performed with a variety of ensembles, including concert band, orchestra, jazz, and musical theater pit orchestra. I have also accompanied choirs on flute. During my time at JMU, I have been able to perform with the Marching Royal Dukes, Symphonic Band, and Chamber Orchestra. I have also been able to explore more in music technology and arranging, as shown through my Musicianship Portfolio Project and when I explored different notation softwares to make a multi-part arrangement of a song. As a teacher, I want to be able to create excitement not only in performance, but in all of the facets of music: including, but not limited to, technology, composition, theory, and improvisation.
